So I was having a discussion with fellow opponaut carcrasher88 about ways to make Scion successful, and I think I just had a brilliant idea.
So here’s the plan :
Take the JDM Toyota Century
Put the steering at the correct place
Put the side mirrors at the correct place
Drop the Tundra V8 in lieu of the expensive and finicky V12
Remove all the fancy stuff
Install vinyl bench seats
Build it in North America
Rename it Crown Majesta (another JDM Toyota, so no IP issues, easy)
Take back All the taxi/law enforcement market left be behind by Ford

Excellent writing as always. Shame the Pulitzers have already been awarded.

The side mirrors are already in the correct place :)
We need a Japanese V12. Come on, Lexus LS-F!

Why save Scion?

One can only hope, but thanks !

That would be too expensive, but maybe they could make a limited run version for enthusiasts, like the Marauder.

Why not

Why save something that shouldn’t exist?
It’s Toyota’s version of Saturn.
GM in the 80s,
“We can’t build a quality small car to save our souls. What do we do? Let’s start an entirely new company!”
Toyota in the late 90s,
“We don’t have anything that the youngs like. What do we do? Let’s start an entirely new company!”

Some people write gonzo journalism. MoE just does gonzo.

Because there’s nothing wrong with Toyota other than being unwilling to take a risk. 25 years ago they were probably the coolest company around, but now they’re just, well, not. They don’t need Scion, they just need to grow some balls.

Toyota’s the dad who did cool stuff back in the day, but he’s slowing down and getting a bit grey.
Scion’s the uncle that tries really hard to use contemporary youth slang and it’s kinda creepy.
Lexus is wearing a trim fancy suit, but it’s got giant shoulder pads for some reason.

More like they need to tell Toyota U.S.A. to fuck off, and make a world market vehicles for the U.S. The rest of the world still gets coolish vehicles from them.

Don’t they have an F-sport version?

Maybe, but of course a full-fledged LS-F would be really really awesome with a V12
